May 1st

Well May 1st is known here as Labour Day, Day of Love, and in Prague, Chicken Day. Well everyone knows what Labour day is or International Worker’s Day. But what is Chicken Day? Well, it's been going on for 10 years now under the apple blossoms on Petrin hill. It's a feast in which tens of varieties of chicken dishes are entered into a competition, and bloody mary is the drink of choice.
The most common though is the National Day of Love. It is like their version of our V-day. Except that you kiss under the blooming cherry trees. Unless you are in Prague, then you go to statue of poet Karel Hynek Macha.
